Agrotourism started in
Chichubamba in the summer of 2005 with the help of ProPeru, a local
NGO based in Urubamba. The community, like many rural areas of Peru, is
struggling economically. Rather than give in to this situation,
though, the community coordinated and created an association to use its
natural talents as a way to collectively help all of the individuals
of Chichubamba.
While still early in giving agro-cultural tours of the community, the ultimate goal for the project is to be completely self-sufficient and sustainable. With your visit to Chichubamba, you will be helping the development of the town and its vision of showing visitors to Peru the way of life in the Andes.

Money that Goes Back to the Community The money that the families earn through either the deomnstration of their skills, or of services provided goes directly to the families. There also exists a board of directors elected by the participants of the agrotourism program whose responsibility it is to keep track of the number of visitors and the money earned. |
